Skit #4 - Late Registration

Skit #4 from Kayne West's 2nd album Late Registration randomly came on my iPhone earlier today and I forgot how hilarious it was.

"You walk your new shoes outta here Kanye. Don't you ever come back here. Don't you ever come back smelling all good, taking showers and s**t like that aiight."

Picture Time

In a continued celebration of new Kanye Album, Complex magazine has a pictorial article entitled "The Making of My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy" which is a collection of behind-the-scenes pictures taken during the creation process. Here is my favorite picture and if you would like to see the rest go HERE, not there.

If you have issues reading the posted-notes they read:

No Tweeting
No Hipster Hats
All Laptops on Mute
Just Shut the F**k Up Sometimes
No Tweeting Please, Thank you
No Blogging
No Negative Blog Viewing
Don't Tell Anyone Anything about Anything That We Are Doing
No Racking Focus while Music is Being Played or is Playing
Total Focus on the Project in all Studios
No Acoustic Guitar in the studio
No Pictures ( Which I find funny and ironic)

Kanye's Production

It's November 22nd, which means Kanye West's new album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy has dropped and I'm giving it the full listen that it deserves. Listening to this album made me realize something about Kanye: He is a genius. Now, we all heard that before, "'Ye makes beautiful music, etc etc" and I agree, but thats not what I'm referring to. It's more of the fact that since Kanye views his music as art, he just doesn't want you to listen to it, he wants you to appreciate it and let the production soak into your brain cells. The way he does this is by just letting the beat ride out for a minute or two. He can literally be in the middle of the song, and you won't hear any lyrics just production. I've noticed this in some of his previous works, but lately its becoming more prevalent. A few examples of this are presented in tracks like We Major (Late Registration), Say You Will (808s and Heartbreaks), Devil In A New Dress (My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy) and even on the Rick Ross collab, Live Fast, Die Young (Teflon Don). I already think Kanye is an amazing producer but this decision of allowing the orchestration/production at times be more of a star then the words is genius. Because lets be real, depending on the artist 90% of the time if the beat is terrible it doesn't matter how amazing or lack of creativity the lyrics are. Anyways, let me get back to listening to this album, I didn't want to waste a thought of this magnitude on 140 characters.

Power [Official Remix] - Kanye x Jay-Z x Swizz Beatz

'Ye might have been a week late, but you can't rush greatness

It took me a minute to write this review, mainly because I didn't feel like expressing how I felt about the song because I usually don't post music on here that I don't like. But I think this remix was warranted a review. So in the immortal words of my boy Woods, this is about to be quick and dirty.

Simply said: Kanye spazzed on this remix. If people were wondering if 'Ye lost it, this track proves he still has it. Its crazy how people say Kanye is an average rapper, but then you hear lyrical content like this and I wonder if they are just saying that just to make conversation. I liked the fact that he kept the original beat intact, mainly because it was so cold already, but it does sound as if it was enhanced a bit, maybe an extra 808 and some church clapping, cause we all know Kanye loves some church clapping. The ending portion was a nice touch as well; old school beat, old school flow ties everything up very well. And I know I haven't mentioned Jay-Z at any point yet, but did I even really have to? Jay always comes nice and this wasn't any different. If anything, this remix was what Kanye was working so hard on it to be, Powerful (oh, pun definitely intended).

Power - Kanye West x Dwele

It's been a minute since we heard from Mr. West. Last weekend he was spotted in SOHO and also happened to drop by a Lower East Side nightclub/lounge and played a few new tracks for an unexpected audience. One week later, without any warning, one of those new songs leaked on the internet entitled "Power". The song features Detroit R&B singer Dwele and is said to not be the finished-mastered version. "Good Ass Job" drops this September, good to have ya back Kanye.

Kanye West x Spike Jonze - "We Were Once A Fairytale"

Quick Synopsis of the short film:

In the film, Kanye plays himself drunk at a club acting belligerent and boastful, telling starstruck club-goers that the song playing in the club is his. He wanders into a side room where he encounters a beautiful woman. They start having sex and then he passes out on her leopard print dress. When he comes to, he finds himself in the VIP room with his pants down – he was hallucinating and fucking the pillow. The realization startles him and he rushes to the bathroom where he vomits what look like rose petals.

Then it gets weird.

Kanye finds a bowie knife in the bathroom and cuts into his stomach, spilling a torrent of more petals. He digs in the knife deeper and then with his hand rips out a small furry rodent, like a demon, only its quite cute. When Kanye realizes it’s connected to him with an umbilical cord, he pulls it hard, ripping it out of him for good. He then puts the demon on the sink and hands him a tiny bowie knife to fit the critter’s scale who then uses it to commit hari kari.
