The Legend of Jimmy Rebel

Episode 4, The Legend of Jimmy Rebel was an interesting take on white Southern culture. Every part of this episode touched on a major part of southern white culture, from country music/movie stars to the Dukes of Hazard fan-service to even a Chapelle's Show nod with the black white-supremicist. If you failed to recorganize the stars they were satiring, it was definitely Johnny Cash and Jerry Reed; both well-known country singers as well as an actor ( Reed) who were praised for their contributions to the...well, white culture. I felt that this episode was one of those episodes in which can either be seen as a great counter-culture satire or just a huge mistake. Boondocks is known for its excessive use of the N-word, but with this episode it was almost overkill with it. And maybe that is what they were going for, an overkill of racism to prove a point, because we all know with the media these days, racism makes a lot of money(Fox news anyone?). And I know I've touched on this in a previous post about educating the people that don't understand the message that the Boondocks is trying to convey, but my big problem is that this episode is going to give these racist white people even more negative things to say about...well, everybody. White people feel like saying Nigger is going to hurt my feelings, which it doesn't. I actually get more upset at the audacity that they have to say the word to me in the attempt to hurt me over the actual word being hurtful. But maybe this episode will show white people how absurb they can be with their racism, maybe.

B*tches to Rags

Episode 2 of Season 3 from The Boondocks. I'll write my review on it later

I throughly enjoyed this episode. It pretty much summed up what is happening in the Hip-Hop industry right now. Everything from the overuse of Autotune to the songs with associated dances to the whole Ice-T/Souja Boy youtube arguments. It was straight on point. The kids these days who are listening to rap don't know a thing about the "legends", they know about the new artists like Gucci Mane but have no idea how important artists like Big Daddy Kane or Sugar Hill Gang are. It actually makes me feel good about being born in the 80s and growing up in the 90s because I got a chance to experience the changes in Hip-Hop, from the New York dominance to the West Coast to the Southern and so on. I've also enjoy how the episodes tend to focus on the other characters within the series. The first season had a large Huey-focus and the second was very Riley-focused. I like that the creator is giving the minor characters their time shine in which turns them into more well-rounded characters. I am looking forward to a more Huey focused episode, but I enjoy the other stories as well.

It's a Black President, Huey Freeman

Last night premiered the first episode of the last season of The Boondocks. After a two year hiatus, the show returns as it has never left. The 3rd season starts off with a satirical look at the period when Barack Obama was being elected. The episode touched on a bit of everything that happened during the time he got elected. People/celebrities jumping on the Obama bandwagon , putting Obama on any and everything to sale some merchandise and pretty much thinking that because he got into office that everything would change by the next day.

My only gripe about The Boondocks being back on the air isn't even about the show but more about the people viewing it. People will watch it and talk about how they are looking so forward to it, but right when the show goes off they turn on their "self-righteous, I hope people are smart enough for this show" bs. I understand that there are people out there who might not clearly understand the message that the show was trying to convey, but can you at least give them a few hours to to get it before you start going in on how they aren't probably educated enough for it. And if you feel that majority of the people probably aren't smart enough for the show, how bout you take your elite ass down a step and go explain it. While I'm over joyed that the show is back on, I know that every Sunday I will hear how great the show is followed up by how ignorant everyone else is. I guess it's just one of those prices you have to pay.

Ooh, I've also included the episode for ya'll who didn't get a chance to see the episode. I'll try to post each week's episode on here just like I did for How to Make it in America.

P.S. Everybody was D**k Riding Obama, we all wanted him to win as bad as the next person. So if someone tries to clown you for it, say yeah, I was and keep it moving. The fools who are talking about how they weren't were probably the biggest riders out there.
